THE BUILD DIARY

Your plan didn’t know what today would bring

Your plan didn’t know what today would bring

A woman reviews a receipt and planner beside a new kettle.

You need to buy something essential. Right now—it cannot wait. There is money in your account, so you pay without checking how much you budgeted for it.

Later, you open your budget. You have spent more than planned.

It is easy to feel bad and decide you got the planning wrong again. But you made that plan earlier, with the information you had then. Today, circumstances changed. The purchase was necessary, and you dealt with it using the resources available.

Now there is less money left. You may need to postpone another purchase, save less this month or rethink spending until your next income arrives. Those are real consequences to work through. But you do not have to blame yourself because life differed from your forecast.

You have new information. It is time to update the plan and keep going.

As we develop JAB47, we pay particular attention to situations like this. We want to help you see what has changed, understand your options and make informed decisions about what comes next.

A plan should help you live your life—and change as life changes.
